![]() ![]() ![]() Unmedicated, I still experience a lot of the lightheadedness, dizziness, and feeling like I'm going to faint that other people with POTS do, despite my higher standing blood pressure. I also experience some pretty zombied out states on my worst days, but I haven't had a lot of those lately. ![]() But, it also causes a lot of other symptoms that other types don't experience to the same extent, because it's like you're being chased by a lion, except the lion is replaced by "merely standing." Often, it's not as extreme as that, but it can range from being a little wired to amped up, to irritable and restless, like you're in a fighting mood. This increases both blood pressure and heart rate. What happens in this subtype, assuming you have it, is your body overreacts to standing, and makes too much norepinephrine (a stress hormone) when you stand. I am pretty sure the adrenaline follows instances of breathing difficulty, in which my airway starts to collapse and/ or I'm in danger of aspirating saliva or reflux. I too experience nighttime adrenaline surges and can only really sleep well on my left side. As u/Crow-Queen notes, this is characteristic of hyperadrenergic POTS, which can often be secondary to other types of POTS, which might explain why things have changed. I've been following the threads flexymomma started with great interest. ![]()
